Job summary

Wilmington Machinery LLC is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and integrate control systems for injection molding equipment at our Wilmington, NC campus. The role emphasizes process control, motion control, and robotics, with collaboration across mechanical and electrical teams.

You will diagnose issues, optimize performance, support testing and commissioning, and contribute to continuous improvement and new product development in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Strong process control design, implementation, and optimization.
• Electrical engineering skills: control circuits, PLCs, sensors, industrial automation hardware.
• Troubleshooting control and electrical issues in complex machinery.
• Motion control experience with servos, drives, and multi-axis systems.
• Robotics integration, programming, and maintenance in manufacturing environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell, Siemens) and industrial communication protocols.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation; safe operation of industrial equipment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.
• Experience in plastics, injection molding, or heavy industrial machinery is beneficial but not required.

Role Description

The Controls Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Wilmington, NC. This position is responsible for designing, programming, and integrating control systems for injection molding and related manufacturing equipment. Day-to-day tasks include developing and implementing process control strategies, configuring motion control and robotics components, and collaborating with mechanical and electrical teams to ensure seamless system operation. The Controls Engineer will diagnose and troubleshoot control system issues, optimize equipment performance, and support testing, commissioning, and documentation of control solutions. The role also involves contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and supporting new product and technology development.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Process Control skills, including control system design, implementation, and optimization.


• Candidates should possess Electrical Engineering skills, including familiarity with control circuits, PLCs, sensors, and industrial automation hardware.


• Candidates should possess Troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing, analyzing, and resolving control and electrical issues in complex machinery.


• Candidates should possess Motion Control skills, including experience with servos, drives, and coordinated multi-axis motion systems.


• Candidates should possess Robotics skills, including integration, programming, and maintenance of industrial robots in manufacturing environments.


• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.


• Experience with PLC and HMI programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, or similar platforms) and industrial communication protocols.


• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation, and to work safely with industrial equipment.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.


• Prior experience in plastics, injection molding, or heavy industrial machinery is beneficial but not required.
