Job summary

Raytheon is seeking a seasoned mechanical engineer to drive design and development of phased array radar hardware and electronics packaging. You will lead cross‑functional teams through concept to test, ensuring manufacturability, performance and reliability.

  • Work with mechanical teams through concept, design, development, build and test phases.

  • Lead design release into production with transition-to-production practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with mechanical teams in all phases of our design cycles, from concept development through design, development, building and test.
  • Utilize mechanical hardware design experience and knowledge with ruggedized structures, interconnects, cooling, electronics packaging and/or array integration.
  • Develop technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle including proposal, design, manufacture, integration and test of phased array radars/electronics for multiple military programs.
  • Help create the definitions of mechanical outline and construction details, component selection and specification, mechanical and assembly drawings, electrical/RF layout, and delivering the final technical data package.
  • Employ transition-to-production practices with the ability to lead a design release into production.
  • Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals with ability to make enhancements and leverage in daily work.
  • Prepare proposal inputs on behalf of the product area.
  • Provide technical conscience, challenged with making sure the product and process meet appropriate standards and requirements while helping to remove roadblocks.
  • Perform complex tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
  • Interact with senior personnel, occasionally including external customers, on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in the design of radar architecture or electronics packaging for military or aerospace or commercial applications.
  • Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience in practice.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience with ANSI drawing standards and technical data package creation.
  • First order structural analysis techniques.
  • Experience with design to military and commercial standards.
  • Experience in leading small development efforts and teams.
  • Experience with CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software.
  • Cognizant of machine suppliers’ capabilities or have direct experience in manufacturing and assembly support role for producibility.
  • Familiarity with the design and manufacturing processes of CCAs, mechanical/RF components, metal housings, structures, and electronics assemblies, metal fabrications and joining techniques.
  • Experience in selection of materials for structural, thermal, mechanical, electrical, producibility, and environmental considerations including corrosion mitigation and prevention.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
