Job description

Mechanical Engineer – HVAC (PE Licensed)

Location: California (specific office location to be confirmed with client)

Experience: 5–10 years

License: Professional Engineer (PE) required

Job Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

We're looking for a licensed Mechanical Engineer who wants more than a stamp and a stack of drawings — someone ready to shape the mechanical systems of tomorrow's buildings while shaping their own career path toward leadership. This is a firm where engineers are known by name, mentorship is built into the week (not squeezed in), and there's a real, visible track to principal and ownership for people who want it.

If you're a PE with a strong HVAC background who's ready to take on more complex projects, mentor junior staff, and have a genuine say in how the firm grows — we want to talk to you.

---

What You'll Do
  • Lead mechanical/HVAC design for commercial, institutional, healthcare, and/or industrial projects from concept through construction administration
  • Perform and oversee load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping design, and energy modeling
  • Ensure designs meet California Title 24, ASHRAE standards, and applicable building codes
  • Review and stamp drawings and calculations as the engineer of record
  • Collaborate directly with architects, contractors, and clients — often as the primary technical point of contact
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work and helping them grow toward licensure
  • Contribute to proposals, client relationships, and business development as your role expands
  • Help shape internal standards, tools, and processes — your ideas carry real weight here

---

What You Bring
  • Active California PE license (Mechanical)
  • 5–10 years of HVAC design experience in a consulting engineering environment
  • Proficiency with Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, or equivalent load/energy modeling software
  • Strong working knowledge of Title 24 energy compliance and ASHRAE 90.1/62.1
  • Experience with Revit/AutoCAD MEP; BIM coordination experience a plus
  • A track record of mentoring or a genuine interest in developing others
  • Excellent communication skills — you can explain a design decision to a client as clearly as to a junior engineer

Why This Firm
Culture that's actually lived, not just posted on a wall

This is a close-knit, collaborative team where senior staff make a point of being accessible — no closed-door hierarchy, no "figure it out yourself" culture. Expect open floor plans (literal and figurative), regular knowledge-sharing sessions, and a genuine investment in work-life balance. Flexible schedules and hybrid work are supported, not just tolerated.

A real succession plan

Many firms talk about growth; this one has built the actual pathway. There's a structured track from Senior Engineer → Associate → Principal, with ownership/equity opportunities for those who want to build a long-term future here. Leadership is actively planning for the next generation of firm owners — and that could be you. If your goal is to eventually run projects, run teams, or run the business itself, this is a place built to get you there.

Mentorship both ways

You'll be mentored by senior principals with decades of HVAC design experience, while also mentoring the engineers coming up behind you. Professional development isn't an afterthought — continuing education, PE exam support for staff working toward licensure, and conference attendance are part of how the firm invests in its people.

Meaningful, varied work

Projects span multiple sectors, so you won't be stuck doing the same building type for years — you'll build a broad, resume-defining portfolio while working with a team that genuinely enjoys solving hard problems together.
