Job summary

HDR, Inc. in Minnesota seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design across multi‑discipline teams, coordinate workload, and drive project success at the site and in meetings.

Requirements include a BS in Mechanical Engineering, 10+ years in building systems, and a PE license. Master’s in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis preferred; proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 10+ years in mechanical system design for commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or licensed in relevant jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the work of Mechanical Engineers with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the project’s development.
  • Establish client relations and participate in marketing, design, and production meetings regarding mechanical systems.
  • Lead mechanical aspects on projects and drive reviews for code compliance with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document sessions with PMs and other disciplines on project sites.
  • Coordinate workload and manage the project schedule to ensure on-time delivery of documents.
  • Track project finances and adjust team efforts to stay within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Support project reviews with corporate management as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

In the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer, we'll count on you to:
  • Coordinate the work of Mechanical Engineers with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project's development
  • Establish client relations, and participate in the marketing, design and production meetings with regard to mechanical systems
  • Assume the mechanical lead on many projects
  • Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplines
  • Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work efforts with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon schedule
  • Work with the Project Manager, Regional Controller and Regional Director for project reviews with corporate management as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis
  • Healthcare, Science and Technology and/or Civic facilities experience
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project and AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
