Job summary

Civil & Environmental Consultants, based in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking aMechanical Piping Designer to join our Pittsburgh office. You will design piping, HVAC, and utility systems using Plant 3D, Navisworks, and AutoCAD on complex projects in manufacturing, oil & gas, water treatment, and power sectors.

The role emphasizes collaboration with engineers and senior designers, field visits, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience on heavy industrial and manufacturing projects.
• 10+ years of experience preferred.
• Proficient in Plant 3D.
• Ability to work with engineers and senior designers on mechanical, HVAC, and piping systems.
• Ability to perform field/site visits.
• Ability to travel; estimated travel time around 10%.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with mechanical engineer to develop general arrangements, P&IDs, interconnecting piping, HVAC drawings
• Evaluate and resolve problems by reviewing sources and coordinating design criteria with other disciplines
• Develop mechanical material take-offs
• Provide quality oversight for others' mechanical designs
• Serve as main point of contact for mechanical discipline in meetings with PMs, leads, and clients
• Train and mentor junior designers
• Generate hour estimates for existing work and new proposals

Overview

Our Mechanical Designer (Piping) role provides you the opportunity to design state-of-the-art manufacturing, oil & gas, water treatment and power facilities at Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc. (CEC) in our Pittsburgh, PA office. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with strong communication skills and a passion to apply professional experience and knowledge in a team environment on technically challenging and professionally rewarding projects. You are part of a team working on projects that make our clients successful today, while helping them develop and capitalize on emerging technologies. You will be using Plant 3D, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and resolve problems by reviewing multiple sources of information and coordinating design criteria with other disciplines
• Develop mechanical material take-offs
• Provide quality oversight for mechanical designs performed by others
• Be the main point of contact for the mechanical discipline when meeting with the project manager, other discipline leads, and the customer
• Train and mentor less experienced designers
• Generate mechanical hour estimates to complete ongoing work and for new proposals

Qualifications

• Associate's degree, high school diploma, or equivalent experience on heavy industrial and manufacturing type projects
• 10+ years of experience preferred
• Proficient in the use of Plant 3D
• Ability to work with engineers and senior designers to design mechanical, HVAC, and piping systems
• Ability to perform field/site visits
• Ability to travel (estimated travel time is 10%)

Preferred Qualifications

• Possess an understanding of mechanical engineering codes and standards
• Experience with Mechanical design software
• Knowledge of computerized design tools such as REVIT, Navisworks, and AutoCAD
