Job summary

TAI in Owings Mills, MD seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to shape the design and execution of advanced facility projects. You will lead mechanical design efforts, evaluate system performance, and develop compliant solutions across the full lifecycle from planning to construction support.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, 8+ years of design experience, and Pharma/Life Science project exposure; PE license preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of mechanical design experience for construction documents across a wide range of projects.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting Pharma/Biotech/Life Science projects.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Experience with HVAC, Clean Utilities, Black Utilities, Pressure Vessels, and Fire Suppression systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design efforts for advanced facility projects.
  • Evaluate system performance and develop compliant solutions across the full project lifecycle.
  • Develop engineering specifications and review design work for scope and changes.
  • Direct CAD designers and engineers in preparation of construction drawings.
  • Coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines and with code officials.

As a Mechanical Subject Matter Expert, you will play a critical role in shaping the design and execution of advanced facility projects. Working closely with clients, engineers, and project stakeholders, you will lead mechanical design efforts, evaluate system performance, and develop solutions that support operational excellence in highly regulated environments.   • Individuals may support other engineers or project managers as needed.
  • Research applicable industry standards, prepare engineering studies, analysis of systems, preliminary and detailed engineering design.
  • Develop engineering specifications.
  • Review work of project design team, check progress of work and alert managers to changes in scope and additional services required to complete design.
  • Coordinate some aspects of project document completion.
  • Direct CAD designers and other engineers in the preparation of construction drawings.
  • Possess ability to interpret applicable codes.
  • Work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to codes is required.
  • Coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines as required.

You’ll be a perfect fit if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Mechanical Engineering
  • PE License is preferred.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of mechanical design experience helping to create construction documents for a wide range of projects.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting projects within the Pharma/Biotech/Life Science industry.
  • Subject Matter Expert in non-Critical, critical, and GMP critical Mechanical Systems such as HVAC, Clean Utilities, Black Utilities, Pressure Vessels, and Fire Suppression systems.
  • Capable of providing field surveys in order to document existing building conditions.
  • Capable of performing cooling and heating load calculations.
  • Capable of performing ventilation calculations using the ventilation rate procedure (VRP).
  • Capable of performing COMcheck calculations, and energy modeling.
  • Capable of performing ductwork and piping pressure drop calculations, ductwork and piping layouts.
  • Capable of interpreting Building and Fire Codes, and/or working with code officials.
  • Capable of providing equipment selections, drawing and book specifications for all mechanical equipment which includes air devices, terminal units, chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, packaged, custom, and modular air handing units, valves, insulation, expansion tanks, water heaters, grease interceptors and plumbing fixtures.
  • Capable of providing construction administration support for equipment noted above.
  • Capable of providing equipment details.
  • Capable of determining appropriate system types and providing advanced control sequences.

Candidates must have experience with the following software:

  • Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity or ability to utilize calculation software such as Carrier HAPP, Trane Trace and COMcheck.
  • Revit and/or AutoCAD experience is a plus (ability to open drawings, navigate, edit text, and print)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Pay: $135,000-175,000 Annually (depending on experience)
  • Eligible for overtime pay
  • Annual Profit Sharing Bonus (variable)
