Job summary

TAI is seeking a Senior Process (Utilities) Engineer/SME to lead design and coordination of critical process utility systems for pharma/biotech operations. You will develop technical specifications, studies, and oversee design packages while collaborating across disciplines.

This client-facing role requires eight+ years of experience in process design, PFDs/P&IDs, GMP construction, and familiarity with FDA/EMA standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer licensure is preferred.
• 8+ years of process design experience for diverse projects.
• 8+ years reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, specs for equipment and piping.
• 3+ years supporting Pharma/Biotech/Life Science projects.
• Subject Matter Expert in compressed air, clean rooms, GMP construction.
• Experience with FDA, EMA, and other regulatory standards.
• Knowledge of cGMP, ASME BPE, NFPA codes, and B31.3 piping.
• Knowledge of pumps, valves, control valves, meters, and controls.

• Develop engineering specifications and project cost estimates.
• Review design work and monitor scope changes with managers.
• Coordinate project documentation and CAD drawing preparation.

As a Senior Process (Utilities) Engineer/SME, you will lead the design and coordination of essential process utility systems that support pharmaceutical and biotechnology operations. From developing technical specifications and engineering studies to overseeing design packages and collaborating across disciplines, you will play a pivotal role in bringing complex projects from concept to implementation. Here’s a glimpse into your day to day:

• Prepare Project Technical Requirements Specification for all systems specifying performance requirements & applicable client Standards
• Research applicable industry standards, prepare engineering studies, analysis of systems, preliminary and detailed process engineering designs.
• Develop engineering specifications and project cost estimates.
• Review work of project design team, check progress of work and alert managers to change of scope and additional services.
• Coordinate most aspects of project document completion.
• Direct CAD designers for the preparation of construction drawings.
• Interpret and apply applicable codes.
• Independently work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to codes is required.
• Coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines.

You’ll be a perfect fit if you have:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
• Professional Engineer licensure is preferred
• Minimum of eight (8) years of process design engineering experience helping to create and review process drawing packages for a wide range of projects.
• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience preparing and reviewing PFD’s, P&ID’s, equipment and piping specifications.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting projects within the Pharma/Biotech/Life Science industry.
• Subject Matter Expert in Compressed air, Clean Compressed Air, Carbon Dioxide, Liquid Nitrogen, Cleanrooms and associated GMP construction.
• Experience with FDA, EMA, and other regulatory standards and requirements required
• Advanced knowledge and application of cGMP’s and ASME BPE required.
• Working knowledge with ASME B31.3 piping code.
• Working knowledge of pressure drop calculations for incompressible and compressible fluids
• Working knowledge of sizing centrifugal and positive displacement pumps and other process equipment.
• Working knowledge of with manual and automatic valve types and applications.
• Working knowledge of of electrical area classification – NFPA 497.
• Working knowledge of NFPA fire codes (NFPA 30/NFPA 55 preferred).
• Familiarity of IBC building code.
• Basic knowledge of ASME BPVC, Division 1.
• Working knowledge of process controls/automation.
• Working knowledge of control valve and flow meter sizing and selection.

Candidates must have experience with the following software:

• Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
• AutoCAD (ability to open drawings, navigate, edit text, and print)

Compensation and Benefits:

• Pay: $125,000-175,000 Annually (depending on experience)
• Eligible for overtime pay
• Annual Profit Sharing Bonus (variable)
