Job description

LiquidXR is an expanding, well-funded startup building a platform to digitize human movement. We are creating next‑gen wearables using proprietary MetalGel sensor technology, capturing and feeding movement data to our machine learning‑enhanced algorithms and SDKs, which connect to any modern computer or development environment. We are partnered with several high‑quality companies co‑developing products using our tech, and we are advancing our platform to enable all types of body movement data capture and analysis across multiple areas of use (gaming, sports, performance, XR, and more).

Our tight knit hardware and software team is comprised of experts in product and UX development, biomechanics, algorithms and machine learning, software platform and experience development, electronic engineering, and soft goods industrial design. Individually and collectively, this is a team who gets things done and among us, countless products have been launched worldwide. We are passionate about creating a transformative platform and we are fortunate to work on cool products using our tech along the way.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of critical design projects. In this role, you will be a driving force behind the physical architecture of our platform hardware technology and products, from initial concept to mass production. You will be responsible for designing, prototyping, refining, and validating deformable electronic interconnects and integrated systems, with a special focus on creating elegant and robust solutions for wearable devices. This is a hands‑on role for an engineer who loves to solve complex problems and build tangible, high‑quality products.

What You'll Do
  • Own the Design Process: Lead and own the end‑to‑end mechanical design for a platform which enables a diverse range of products, with a strong focus on next‑generation wearable devices and consumer electronics.
  • Validate Products and Processes: Develop and execute test plans to validate product designs and manufacturing process innovations against internal and external requirements.
  • Create and Innovate: Develop product solutions by translating abstract concepts into functional prototypes and manufacturable products using 3D CAD and hands‑on rapid prototyping.
  • Produce High‑Quality Documentation: Develop and maintain meticulous engineering documentation, including detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), and comprehensive test plans and test reports.
  • Solve Tough Problems: Apply first‑principles thinking and a structured approach to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Drive Projects Forward: Simultaneously manage and drive multiple projects from start to finish in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment, ensuring timelines and technical goals are met.
  • Collaborate and Integrate: Work closely with product management, electrical engineers, manufacturing technicians, firmware and software engineers, and soft goods industrial designers, as well as external partners, to ensure seamless product integration and cohesive final products.
  • Stay Ahead of the Curve: Research and apply your understanding of industry trends, emerging materials, and advanced manufacturing processes to keep our products at the cutting edge.
What You’ll Bring (Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, with a strong portfolio of successfully launched products.
  • Proven aptitude for developing innovative product solutions and leveraging novel technology to satisfy customer needs.
  • Extensive experience with root‑cause failure analysis and technical problem‑solving for product design and manufacturing processes development.
  • Experience with design verification and validation.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo).
  • Experience in designing for wearable technology, consumer electronics, or other miniaturized, high‑volume products is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with thermoplastic elastomers and familiarity with thin film extrusion, film lamination, and thermal bonding is a plus.
Who You Are
  • An Owner: You possess a powerful ownership mindset and take full accountability for your projects from concept to completion.
  • A Proactive Driver: You are a self‑starter who can "catch the vision and run with it." You thrive with autonomy and are skilled at moving projects forward with minimal oversight.
  • A Team Player: You are a natural collaborator who communicates clearly and works effectively with cross‑functional teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Adaptable and Resilient: You excel at managing multiple priorities without sacrificing quality. You see the challenges of a startup environment as opportunities.
  • Detail‑Oriented: You have a keen eye for detail and are committed to producing high‑quality, well‑documented work.

This is a full‑time employee position in Los Angeles, CA. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and will be competitive with the market. This is primarily an in‑person role in our Los Angeles office which houses our R&D and prototype manufacturing and testing equipment. Some remote work will be reasonable. Occasional travel may be required domestically and internationally.

  • You will also participate in the employee stock option program.
  • You will be provided health care benefits (currently, gold PPO coverage with Blue Shield, as well as dental and vision) starting within 30 days of employment.
  • We are an open PTO company.
