Job summary

BR+A Consulting Engineers seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Los Angeles, CA office. The candidate should be highly organized, take ownership of assignments, and perform well independently and as part of a project team.

The ideal candidate will have strong Revit skills and will handle complex HVAC design, coordination with multiple disciplines, and coordination of field verification and take-offs for renovation projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in healthcare, higher education or laboratory projects.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Proactive and collaborative team member.
• PE license and a mechanical engineering degree are required.
• 10–15 years of relevant experience in the field.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality designs and deliverables on technically challenging projects.
• Manage projects, write proposals, and maintain client relationships.
• Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP.
• Develop ductwork and piping layouts and equipment room sizes.
• Coordinate with other disciplines (MEP/FP, architectural, structural) for HVAC details.
• Respond to RFIs and review submittals accurately.
• Guide design process within the allotted project hours.

BR+A provides state-of-the-art integrated and coordinated mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection consulting engineering, technology systems design, lighting design, and building commissioning services.

BR+A is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Los Angeles, CA office. The candidate must be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative The ability to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team is necessary.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of Revit, and their responsibilities will include:

• Delivering high-quality designs and deliverables on technically challenging projects
• Managing projects, writing proposals, maintaining positive client relationships
• Performing advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP
• Developing sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas
• Developing equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases
• Editing specifications to reflect the project requirements
• Developing air and water flows
• Understanding fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application
• Using the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system
• Meeting with vendors to determine specification requirements for application
• Coordinating with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC details
• Responding to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals
• Understanding work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the work plan
• Understanding the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and delivering appropriate documentation
• Modifying sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems
• Understanding both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applying equipment
• Meeting with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details
• Performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
