BR+A is seeking an HVAC/Field Engineer to join our talented team. This role exercises oversight during the construction phase of building systems engineering projects and will be based in our Charleston, SC office. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years of related experience and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks, be highly organized, have excellent writing skills, proficient computer skills, and a professional and team‑oriented demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Implement approved system concepts in the construction phase.
• Manage the construction‑related aspects of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering; develop and maintain positive client relationships.
• Communicate with BR+A Project Manager/Project Engineer regarding potential problems and engineering assistance from the design team that may be needed.
• Coordinate with other construction trade disciplines and the architect.
• Attend meetings as required, work to submit the required documentation per project deadlines and milestones.
• Perform field work and verification of existing conditions and newly installed mechanical and electrical systems.
• Review, process, and return electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection submittals and RFIs. Familiarity with these aspects is desirable though not expected to be an expert.
• Work with clients to review punch lists and help resolve design and installation issues.

Required Skills

• Functional working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems, as well as systems design and construction processes.
• The ability to work directly with architects, owners, and construction manager representatives in a hands‑on training role for the functional understanding of systems.
• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• P.E. license is a plus.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and/or DDC building automation systems is a plus.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Good understanding of MEP engineering concepts, design, and spatial requirements.
• Able to think three‑dimensionally.
• Able to physically access and navigate job sites of various sizes to conduct field investigations; physically capable of climbing ladders to view overhead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
• Detail oriented and deadline‑driven.
• Able to manage time to meet deadlines.
• Prior experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC system integration, Building Management Systems, and Air/Water testing and balancing disciplines.
• HVAC engineering experience preferred.
• Prior experience with construction management software, such as Procore and Newforma.
