Senior Mechanical Engineer

In this role, you will be part of the Mission Critical & Data Center team based in Chicago. You will design and manage mechanical systems for high‑impact projects, ensuring compliance with codes, specifications, and client requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review CAD drawings and mechanical documentation.
• Compute loads and perform detailed calculations.
• Apply relevant mechanical codes and standards.
• Edit specifications to reflect project requirements.
• Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases.
• Select and schedule equipment, and coordinate with vendors.
• Collate information with other disciplines (MEP/FP, Arch, Struct, etc.).
• Respond to RFIs and review submittals accurately.
• Troubleshoot installation issues and apply risk‑management procedures.
• Plan work, manage designs, and meet project milestones.
• Create appropriate design documentation (SD narrative, basis of design, etc.).
• Mentor designer‑level staff and provide QA/QC guidance.
• Review code compliance with designers.
• Prepare studies, reports, and operation sequences for AHU, CHW, and HW systems.
• Apply concepts of CHW, HW, WSHP, variable & constant flow systems.
• Execute air‑side system selection (CV, VAV, coil, fan).
• Execute hydronic system design (hot, chilled, condenser, steam).
• Apply psychometrics to project calculations.
• Analyze and select advanced equipment (chillers, boilers, heat pumps, etc.).
• Consider humid climate design risks and total energy concepts.
• Manage multiple project work plans within budgeted hours.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in project management or mechanical design.
• PE license and formal engineering degree.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Preferred experience in data center, mission‑critical, or telecom industries.
• Experience with building design.

Pay Range

$150,000 to $170,000, depending on skill set, experience, and certifications.
