Job summary

EXP is looking for a Project Manager / Senior Mechanical Engineer based in Denver, Colorado. This position involves leading mechanical design projects for diverse sectors, including Hospitality, Healthcare, and Life Sciences across the United States.

The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of mechanical design experience and is expected to manage multiple projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure quality assurance throughout the design process. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a Professional Engineer license in Colorado are required.

  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience in relevant fields.
  • Registered Professional Engineer required in the State of Colorado.
  • 7+ years of experience in hospitality, healthcare, or life sciences design.

  • Conduct life-cycle cost analyses for HVAC systems.

Job description

Project Manager / Senior Mechanical Engineer

This position will lead exciting projects across the United States for Hospitality/Luxury Residential, Entertainment, Healthcare and Life Sciences.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and direct less experienced mechanical staff on all of their responsibilities.
  • Perform a “responsible charge” level in regard to meeting EXP’s design and quality levels.
  • Perform QA/QC review of specifications, reports, code application, RFI and submittal review, equipment selection, deliverables and drawings.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of all calculations by designers and provide guidance and mentoring.
  • Determine content of drawings and specs for less experienced staff to meet the scope of work.
  • Review code related items with Designers and ensure compliance.
  • Edit and develop basis of design narratives documenting project scope.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of psychrometrics.
  • Understand and apply concepts of CHW, HW, WSHP, variable & constant flow systems.
  • Lead advance equipment selection and analysis – chillers, boilers, air terminals, cooling towers, HEPA filters, DX equipment, and water source heat pumps.
  • Write new specification sections, develop new details as required for project needs.
  • Write studies and reports for systems on projects.
  • Perform life‑cycle cost analyses, and energy/cost calculations for HVAC systems.
  • Apply and modify appropriate controls diagrams for the project.
  • Modify sequences of operation for air and water side equipment and systems.
  • Meet with contractors during bid phase to review design details.
  • Critically evaluate contractor pricing and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate value engineering items with respect to EXP’s level of risk.
  • Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize EXP’s and client’s exposure to problems.
  • Travel to project sites to review progress of work and successfully solve problems within time & budget.
  • Develop and monitor work plans.
  • Manage work plans and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours and guide Designers on management of task hours.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 10+ years Mechanical design experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Denver required.
  • 7+ years of hospitality facility, healthcare and life sciences or hospitality design experience.
Salary Range

The salary range for this role is $130,000 to $180,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location.
