Collaborative Design. Technical Excellence. Community Impact.

Are you a senior mechanical building services professional who loves solving the puzzle of complex MEP systems and leading projects from start to finish? Thompson & Litton is seeking a self-motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer – Building Services to join our multidisciplinary team. Whether you are driving high-efficiency HVAC load strategy, overseeing life safety fire protection design, or mentoring the next generation of engineers, you’ll play a key role in delivering complete building services solutions across commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.

The Role: From Concept to Completion

As a senior member of our Building Services engineering team, you will lead the full scope of design and project delivery for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. You will:

  • Design and Lead: Drive the production of comprehensive mechanical building services packages, including advanced HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection plans.
  • Analyze and Optimize: Oversee critical calculations for HVAC loads, energy usage, and life‑cycle costs to deliver sustainable, high-performance building solutions.
  • Collaborate in the Field: Lead site visits for renovations and additions, gathering the 'ground‑truth' data needed for seamless building systems integration.
  • Guide Project Delivery: Author and review technical specifications, engineering reports, and building system condition assessments.
  • Support Construction & Quality: Direct construction‑phase administration, managing RFIs, submittal reviews, and field assessments for mechanical systems while ensuring high‑quality execution.
  • Mentor & Guide: Share expertise with junior and mid‑level engineering staff to support their technical growth and career development.
What You Bring
  • Experience: 6+ years of progressive experience in building services design (specifically HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) within commercial, industrial, or institutional sectors.
  • Licensure & Education: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in state of practice required (or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire).
  • Technical Software: Proficiency in—or demonstrated leadership using—AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP (Carrier) or equivalent building performance simulation software.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of mechanical and building codes and standards (including ICC, ASHRAE, and NFPA).
  • Project Leadership: A proven track record of delivering complex building services projects on time and on budget while serving as a key liaison for clients and multidisciplinary teams.
The T&L Advantage
  • Employee-Owned (ESOP): Because T&L is 100% employee‑owned, you aren't just an employee—you are a stakeholder. You’ll directly benefit from the firm’s growth, stability, and collective success.
  • Professional Development: We invest heavily in your career longevity. Whether it's pursuing specialized leadership tracks, attending industry conferences, or earning advanced credentials, we provide the resources to help you grow.
  • Flexible Work Environment: We work where the work needs us—in the office, from home, in the field, and in the community. We offer flexible scheduling options to support work‑life balance.
  • Mentorship Culture: We value leaders who enjoy elevating others. At T&L, your guidance of junior staff is as vital to our culture as your technical excellence.
  • Broad Project Scope: From K-12 schools and higher education facilities to industrial plants, you will lead and contribute to a diverse project portfolio.
