We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to play a pivotal role in delivering our innovative hair braiding robot to market as we near the end of R&D. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of hair styling technology, launch a new product suite, mentor junior engineers and have a significant impact on our fast-growing mission-driven startup. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with a dynamic founding team and collaborate across Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Hardware. This role reports to the CTO.

YOU HAVE

  • Demonstrated design intelligence, mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, and strong attention to detail
  • Created and tested proof-of-concept models and prototypes in the R&D stage
  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) & mass manufacturing methods (injection molding, CNC etc.)
  • Experience with gear design and linkages, and moving mechanisms
  • Rapid prototyping and manufacturing methods (3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting)
  • Experience working with Industrial Design to incorporate user needs, ergonomics, and aesthetics
  • Excellent communication skills, an ability to clearly convey design ideas and brainstorm
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior engineers
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including product, sales, and creative teams
  • Adaptable and inventive, you’re able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and problem solve with a no-task-is-too-small attitude

BONUS IF YOU HAVE

  • Experience with consumer electronics, robotics, or hair styling tools, startup experience a plus
  • Technical expertise with mechatronics components such as sensors, motors, electromagnets
  • Experience with design optimization using FEA/CFD simulation

YOU WILL

  • Own 3D CAD and design requirements of mechanical systems through product development and launch.
  • Take an active role in defining design specifications for a given concept
  • Use hand calculations, computer simulation, or lab-based testing to validate designs through the development process.
  • Liaise and collaborate with suppliers to develop innovative, scaleable products
  • Challenge and develop Halo Braid’s engineering practices to continuously improve design quality.
  • Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly.
  • Oversee and mentor the technical work of other engineers, ensuring adherence to best practices and engineering standards
