Job summary

BY Recruiting is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an Equipment Engineering team designing, building, and deploying custom production equipment for next-generation optical/precision hardware production.

You will split time between desk design and hands-on lab integration, testing, and troubleshooting, collaborating with software teams, machinists and suppliers to deliver reliable tooling from concept to deployment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience designing custom equipment or machinery.
• Strong 3D CAD skills with Creo preferred; SolidWorks or NX also accepted.
• Systems-level thinker who owns full equipment design from concept to testing.
• Hands-on experience taking designs through fabrication, assembly, integration and testing.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA for machined parts.
• US Citizen or Green Card holder (no visa sponsorship).

Job description

We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join an Equipment Engineering team designing, building, and deploying custom manufacturing equipment for next-generation optical/precision hardware production. You'll be a core member of a hands-on hardware team, working at the intersection of precision engineering, automation, and nanometer-scale process development.

What you'll be doing:

• Designing and building custom production equipment, automation systems, fixtures, and electromechanical assemblies from concept through deployment
• Upgrading and automating metrology equipment and precision process tools (dispensing, curing, measurement systems)
• Working with precision stages, actuators, bearings, control electronics, and multi-axis motion systems at the nanometer scale
• Collaborating with a software team, machinists, suppliers, and cross-functional engineers to get custom tools designed, built, and operational
• Splitting time roughly 60/40 between desk design work and hands-on lab integration, testing, and troubleshooting

What you'll need:

• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (less with a Master's) personally designing custom equipment or machinery — not modifying off-the-shelf products
• Strong 3D CAD skills — Creo strongly preferred; SolidWorks or NX also accepted
• A systems-level thinker who can own full equipment design, not just niche components
• Hands-on experience taking designs through fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing
• Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA for machined/fabricated parts
• US Citizen or Green Card holder (no visa sponsorship available)

Nice to have:

• Background in semiconductor capital equipment, wafer processing, factory automation, or metrology
• Experience with precision motion, optics, robotics, or nanometer/micron-scale measurement systems
