The Mechanical Design Engineer will initially develop a strong understanding of the company's product portfolio and become familiar with the design and engineering solutions used across a range of advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
The candidate will work closely with senior engineering leadership to design, develop and test new products and components for customers, with a focus on maximizing Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time Between Maintenance (MTBM). The Mechanical Design Engineer will also work directly with engineering and commercial teams to understand customer requirements, translate them into practical engineering solutions, and deliver designs that meet or exceed expectations.
Responsibilities:
- Support Senior Management in the development of new products and the continued expansion of the company's product portfolio
- Develop an understanding of complex semiconductor manufacturing equipment and support the design and development of new products and engineering solutions
- Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new designs and assemblies
- Design and execute experiments to evaluate and validate prototypes
- Prepare detailed technical designs, engineering drawings and 3D models of new components and assemblies
- Test prototypes for form, fit and function, including thermal testing and analysis
- Translate customer requirements into clear engineering specifications and communicate them effectively to Engineering and Sales teams
- Contribute technical expertise to the continued development of the company's Research and Development capabilities
- Prioritize and manage customer-driven engineering requests and technical requirements
- Assist with and lead new R&D projects in collaboration with the wider Engineering team
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a mechanical design or design engineering role; experience within the Semiconductor, Vacuum, Ion Optics or advanced manufacturing industries is preferred
- Knowledge of Ion Optics and/or metallurgy of refractory metals is preferred
- Strong ability to create and interpret mechanical drawings, with a solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and its application to thermal and mechanical systems
- Proficient with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
- Experience with LabVIEW and/or COMSOL is preferred
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams
- Ability to thrive in a highly technical, detail-oriented environment
