Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead in-house mechanical design and CAD development for next-generation vehicle display systems. You will own the mechanical architecture, packaging concepts, and integration with electronics, connectors, and mounting strategies.

You will collaborate with CAE, Design Studio, Manufacturing, and suppliers to drive best practices, mentor teams, and ensure timely release of design data across the GVDP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field; 3+ years product design experience.
• Or 10+ years of product design experience in lieu of a technical degree.
• Experience with GM engineering tools (NX, Teamcenter, Vis Mockup, CAD release and data mgmt).
• Familiarity with CAE-supported design development and release processes.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and CAD development for display systems and electronics integration.
• Create packaging concepts, virtual layouts, and design solutions meeting requirements.
• Develop and maintain CAD models and release data in GM tools.
• Drive display integration across the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP).
• Perform packaging studies, clearance analyses, tolerance reviews, and design evaluations.
• Collaborate with CAE to improve designs through simulation and validation.
• Mentor engineers on display design standards and virtual integration practices.
• Release engineering data on time with a focus on quality and compliance.
