Job summary

Stellant Systems, Inc. in Torrance, CA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Drafting and Design group onsite. The role involves creating CAD models and drawings, applying GD&T, and leading design projects for space systems.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, check work for accuracy, and help design tooling for manufacturing. A BS in a relevant field and progressive experience in CAD and space design standards are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Level II – minimum 2 years relevant experience; Level III – minimum 4 years; Level IV – minimum 6 years; Level V – minimum 8 years.
• Advanced experience with Creo, Siemens NX or CATIA (Creo preferred).
• Strong GD&T skills for dimension schemes, datum features, true positions, modifiers and tolerance analyses.
• Familiarity with space design standards and design for manufacturing.
• Senior level checker experience.
• Proven ability to communicate concepts verbally and in writing.
• Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams across the company.

Responsibilities

Overview

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Location: Torrance, CA

Salary: $80,000.00-$150,000.00/yr

Stellant Systems Inc. (Stellant) currently has an opportunity for an onsite Senior Mechanical Designer to join the Drafting and Design group at our Torrance, California location.

Stellant’s industry leading space TWT, Electronic Power Conditioners (EPCs), and Microwave Power Modules (MPMs) support spacecraft mission needs with over 4700 TWTs in orbit and 290 million operating hours. Terrestrial TWTs and MPMs support critical applications for RF communications, electronic warfare (EW) and radar, producing ~2000 units a year.

Responsibilities

• Create CAD models and engineering drawings of products and tools with dimension schemes using GD&T
• Collaborate with engineering team to develop new products to design specifications, industry and military standards, design for manufacturing concepts, and continuous improvement objectives
• Independently design tooling solutions for the efficient manufacture of space products
• Lead design projects by proactively collecting required information, solving manufacturing and design problems and using sound judgment to make decisions with minimal oversight
• Make drawing/model changes authorized by Engineering Change Notices
• Check the accuracy of other mechanical designer’s work

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field plus: Level II – minimum 2 years relevant experience; Level III – minimum 4 years relevant experience; Level IV – minimum 6 years relevant experience; Level V – minimum 8 years relevant experience. Additional years of relevant experience may be used in lieu of education.
• Advanced experience with enterprise level CAD software (e.g., Creo, Siemens NX, CATIA). Creo is preferred
• Advanced in the use of GD&T to layout dimension schemes, including but not limited to thoughtful datum feature application, hole pattern true positions with modifiers, MMB, runout, flatness, profile and parallelism applications
• Familiarity with space design standards and design for manufacturing
• Senior level checker experience
• Strong ability to communicate and articulate design concepts both verbally and in presentations and emails
• Strong ability to use Microsoft Office products
• Other qualifications that will enable you to perform successfully in this position include:
• Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
• Must be able to work well in a team environment and with individuals from a variety of areas within the company (such as program managers, engineers from multiple disciplines, business development staff, senior management, and manufacturing and test personnel)
• Familiarity with 3D printing
• Understanding of machining, fabrication and manufacturing processes and principles
