Job summary

Austal USA is seeking an experienced Design Engineer lead to supervise Designers I–Draftspersons in support of naval shipbuilding programs. You will ensure design drawings meet customer requirements, establish design policies, and drive on-time delivery with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities include guiding 3D modeling in AutoCAD/Ship Constructor, mentoring staff, reviewing schedules, and coordinating with production, customers, and suppliers to uphold quality and schedule commitments.

Qualifications

• Ten (10) years of shipyard design and construction experience.
• Ten (10) years of 3D modeling experience or equivalent maritime/production experience.
• Experience leading design teams of five or more people.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Understanding of work scheduling processes and deadlines.
• Ability to interact with production managers, design teams, customers and suppliers.
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Ship Constructor or similar 3D modeling software.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for drawing development as assigned by leadership.
• Leads and directs Designers and Draftspersons to meet deadlines.
• Collaborates with Production Management and cross-functional teams.
• Reviews technical adequacy of drawings and issues corrections.
• Establishes design concepts and procedures policies.
• Trains Designers and Draftspersons to established standards.
• Reviews staff schedules, vacation, and training inputs.
• Provides input to department budget for training.
