Job summary

SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA seeks a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer (Starship Components) to own end-to-end design, analysis, and flight readiness for propulsion hardware across Starship and Super Heavy.

You will partner with manufacturing, testing, and supply chain to accelerate deliveries, set rigorous testing standards, and lead root-cause investigations while shaping system-level architecture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in physics or an engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of mechanical design/hands-on manufacturing experience.
• Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project milestones.
• Must be willing to travel (< 25%)

Responsibilities

• Develop state-of-the-art, manufacturable flow control devices and actuators across Starship and Super Heavy stage systems.
• Validate reliability of hardware and designs with rigorous testing and develop fixturing and technical reports.
• Partner with manufacturing, production, testing, and supply chain to achieve high component build rate and accelerate deliveries.
• Generate and maintain detailed drawings, component specifications, analysis and risk assessments.
• Spearhead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat failures.
• Set the standard for rigorous component design and qualification testing as the vehicle matures.
