Job summary

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer – Level 3 in San Diego, CA for our MEP Team. This 100% onsite role develops composite components, assemblies, and tooling, collaborating with Manufacturing, Test, and other Engineering functions to ensure successful hardware delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with relevant design experience.
• Experience in aerospace product definition and design shows understanding of specs and drawings.
• Knowledge of aerospace materials and assembly methods (bonding/fastening).
• Ability to design complex, multi-piece tool assemblies for manufacturing and test plans.
• Experience with CAD and PLM systems (Siemens NX, Teamcenter) and GD&T drawing generation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design complex assemblies including high strength and stiffness laminates and honeycomb structures.
• Create, prototype, design, and analyze tools and fixtures for manufacturing and testing.
• Develop and refine components using CAD and analytical tools.
• Produce detailed 3D designs and 2D drawings.
• Participate in design reviews and prepare presentation media for reviews.
