Job summary

Firefly is building the operating system for physical safety, combining hardware and software to help spaces understand events and respond quickly. The Mechanical Design Engineer will drive hardware development across the full lifecycle, from concept to mass production, in a fast-paced environment in New York.

You will collaborate with firmware, mechanical engineering, industrial design, and operations, and work with contract manufacturers to balance trade-offs and deliver reliable products for

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of experience designing within the security or consumer electronics space.
• Experience with wearables, communication, outdoor, or security devices.
• Strong mechanical fundamentals and relevant analysis.
• Familiar with all stages of product development from concept to production.
• Track record bringing multiple products to mass production with design for manufacturability and quality.
• Strong prototyping and fabrication skills.
• Experience with contract or joint development manufacturers.
• Passionate about user experience and collaborating with industrial design.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and product intuition.
• Works autonomously with a sense of urgency.

Responsibilities

• Own the hardware lifecycle from R&D through mass production.
• Collaborate with FW, ME, ID, Ops, and SW teams.
• Partner with manufacturing to balance tradeoffs and ensure high-quality products.
