Job description

Firefly is building the defining physical AI company of the next decade, starting with safety.

We believe safety is the most important problem facing America today. Every school, hospital, hotel, workplace, and public venue relies on a patchwork of disconnected systems to understand and protect the people inside them. Most were built decades ago, rarely work together, and leave organizations operating without a real-time understanding of what's happening across their spaces.

Firefly is replacing that stack with a single AI-native platform that helps organizations understand their environment, coordinate action, and respond when every second counts. We combine intelligent software with beautifully designed hardware to bring consumer-grade experiences to one of the world's largest and most important industries.

In less than two years, Firefly has grown from an idea to protecting everything from boutique hotels to 30,000-student school systems, raising more than $27 million from leading investors along the way. Our team includes leaders from Apple and Verkada who care deeply about craft, speed, and building technology that matters in the real world.

Safety is where the need is most urgent, but the opportunity is much larger. Every physical space generates signals. Every organization needs to understand what is happening, determine what matters, and coordinate the right response. We believe the next generation of AI will move beyond screens and into the real world, becoming the system of intelligence that helps organizations operate and protect the spaces they are responsible for.

About the Role

Firefly is hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineer to realize our product roadmap, where design and reliability are uncompromising principles.

We're building the operating system for physical safety – devices and software that help schools, hospitals, hotels, workplaces, and public venues understand what's happening across their spaces, coordinate action, and respond when every second matters.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Firefly, you will be working through the full hardware lifecycle from R&D through mass production. You'll be working with experienced counterparts across FW, ME, ID, Ops, and SW; and directly with our manufacturing partners to balance tradeoffs and ultimately build the best products for our users.

You're a fit if you have:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5+ years of experience designing within the security or consumer electronics space
  • Experience with wearables, communication, outdoor, and or security devices
  • Strong mechanical fundamentals and relevant analysis
  • Familiar with and or a desire to learn all stages of product development, from concept to production.
  • A track record bringing multiple products to mass production, including design for manufacturability and quality
  • Strong prototyping and fabrication skills
  • Experience with contract or joint development manufacturers
  • Passionate about user experience and experience working closely with industrial design
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and product intuition
  • Works autonomously with a sense of urgency
Compensation

The salary range for this full-time position is $160,000 – $220,000 plus equity and benefits. Actual compensation will depend on factors including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
