Job summary

Patronus AI, Inc. is seeking experienced mechanical engineers to join our remote research team on AI evaluation tasks. You will design realistic mechanical engineering tasks, create working documents, solve tasks end-to-end, and define grading criteria for frontier models.

No AI background is required, but you should be the kind of engineer who checks load cases before trusting safety factors. Flexible, asynchronous collaboration is expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design or related field.
• Strong command of standards, methods and codes in your area (e.g., GD&T, hand-calculation, FEA).
• Excellent calculation and spreadsheet skills; meticulous with units and loads.
• Clear, precise professional English writing.
• Ability to work independently and asynchronously against deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Build realistic evidence files from scenarios: drawings, BOMs, hand calculations, and test reports.
• Write task requests with deliverables and uncertainty handling.
• Solve tasks end-to-end and document a reference solution with reasoning.
• Create precise scoring criteria for grader agreement, including tolerances.
• Check work for technical accuracy and ambiguity.
• Explain how work is done to the team and flag unrealistic aspects.
• Review scenarios and documents for realism.
