Job summary

ATC Automation, based in Simi Valley, CA, seeks a hands-on Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical development of custom automation machinery and tooling systems. You will work with customers to define requirements and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-performance automation.

The role involves designing, prototyping, testing, and supporting on-site installations, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• This role requires proven success in custom automation and machine design environments.
• Experience sizing, specifying, and integrating automation peripherals such as actuators and vision systems.
• Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software; strong GD&T knowledge.
• Strong understanding of mechanical components, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of custom automation systems and tooling.
• Define design standards and drive continuous improvement in mechanical processes.
• Integrate standard and custom automation components including robotics and sensors.
• Create manufacturing-ready 3D models and 2D drawings; mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate with controls/software engineers for system integration.
