Job summary

Navarro Research and Engineering in Oak Ridge, TN seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in piping and mechanical systems for process-control environments handling liquids or gases.

The role requires extensive experience in fluid dynamics, CFD/FEA, and equipment specification, leading projects from conception through realization with minimal supervision while meeting safety and regulatory targets. DOE Q-level clearance is often required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and/or certifications in project management or quality are advantageous but not required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and US citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, construction, and maintenance of facility piping systems with component sizing and equipment selection.
• Model pressure, flow, and thermal effects using CFD/FEA; validate piping integrity under loads.
• Develop and review mechanical and piping drawings, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
• Plan and coordinate engineering work for major projects; prepare ROMs and equipment specifications.
• Participate in safety reviews, QA activities, and regulatory audits; push for continuous improvement.
• Produce technical reports and progress updates; present findings to stakeholders.
• Direct technical staff and mentor junior engineers in mechanical and fluid-system design.
