Job summary

VIAVI Solutions is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of optical test equipment and systems from concept through production release. You will work with an international, multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions for laboratory, manufacturing, and field use.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive engineering best practices, and help ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability across the full lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Significant experience in mechanical product design and development.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D MCAD software.
• Experience performing tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Experience performing thermal simulation.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T.
• Experience creating manufacturing drawings and supporting production release.
• Familiarity with prototype development including 3D printing/additive manufacturing.
• Understanding full product development lifecycle from concept to launch.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of optical test equipment and systems.
• Collaborate closely with optical, electrical, manufacturing, and product engineering groups.
• Prototype, test, and validate designs to meet specifications and reliability.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, test procedures, and verification reports.
• Drive DFx into design for manufacturability and assembly.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead technical reviews.
