Job summary

Leonardo seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Tucson, AZ to lead the development of advanced diode laser systems. You will split time between hands-on prototyping in our cleanroom/lab and sophisticated design work using SolidWorks and ANSYS, engaging with customers and cross-functional teams.

You will mentor engineers, drive project priorities, and ensure design transfers to production. This role demands a strong background in thermal management, precision components, and laser-focused

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum 6 years of impactful engineering experience with independent responsibility.
• Hands-on development in a cleanroom environment up to 50% of the time.
• Desire to own products from concept to completion across full lifecycle.
• Strong thermal design experience with heatsinks and heat exchangers.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and rigorous analysis of complex mechanical components and assemblies.
• Balance concept-to-delivery responsibilities with hands-on prototyping and testing.
• Mentor junior engineers and guide project priorities with Program Managers.
• Facilitate smooth transfer from development to production with Product Engineers.
• Present design reviews clearly to internal stakeholders and customers.
