Flatiron Crane Operating Company is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a hybrid role with travel across the Midwest. You will design, analyze, and test mechanical systems using CAD tools, ensuring safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Position Description

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems, components, and equipment. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design and develop mechanical systems, components, and products using CAD software and engineering tools
• Perform calculations, simulations, and analyses to validate designs and ensure compliance with safety, reliability, and performance standards
• Produce technical drawings, specifications, repair procedures, and documentation for manufacturing and assembly
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and project teams to support production, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Conduct prototype testing, collect data, and evaluate product performance
• Research new materials, methods, and technologies to enhance product performance and efficiency
• Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with company and industry standards

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred for select roles)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus, but not required
• Proficiency in CAD software such as CREO, AutoCAD, or equivalent
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude; familiar with manual and power hand tools
• Skilled in data collection using micrometers, calipers, and measuring tape
• Comfortable working at heights and physically capable of operating scissors lifts and boom lifts
• Willingness to travel throughout the Midwest region
