Job summary

RISE Robotics, based in Somerville, MA, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to drive end-to-end hardware development for heavy‑duty actuation systems. The role covers concept to prototype testing, with direct involvement in design reviews and cross‑functional collaboration.

You will apply GD&T, FEA, and electro‑mechanical design skills to mature products for DoD and commercial partners, while advancing manufacturing processes and cost improvements. Onsite four+ days a week.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in mechanical design or related R&D roles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Proven experience with electro-mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with fabrication processes (metal forming, CNC, molding, adhesives, composites).
• Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks or similar).
• Knowledge of FEA and validation of results.
• Troubleshooting and structured problem-solving.
• Experience with data to identify design/assembly issues and drive quality.
• Experience with bearing, linear guides, motors and drive train components.

Responsibilities

• Develop proof of concept systems from requirements to prototype testing and handoff.
• Advance mechanical systems through design gates via analyses and reviews.
• Lead efforts to solve design/manufacturing challenges and drive cost reduction.
• Plan and perform statistical analyses to understand process/design interactions.
• Create best-practices guidelines to improve hardware development efficiency.
• Communicate data-driven recommendations to peers and leadership.
• Travel to domestic OEM partners with potential for overseas travel.
