Job summary

Helmerich and Payne in Tulsa is seeking a Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical Design to lead the development of mechanical systems and upgrades for the FlexRig fleet. This role requires strong CAD skills and hands-on design leadership to deliver safe, reliable equipment for field deployment.

The successful candidate will collaborate across mechanical, structural, electrical, controls, and field teams, with 7+ years of experience and proven project leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• At least 7 years of mechanical design or related experience.
• Ability to lead complex mechanical work from concept to deployment.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and production drawing practices; experience with Inventor/AutoCAD/Vault.
• Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and controls interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development for new rig equipment and modifications.
• Translate needs into design requirements and execution plans.
• Develop layouts, weldments, assemblies, and interfaces.
• Perform engineering analysis including loads, stresses, tolerances, and FEA.
• Prepare and approve drawings, BOMs, and design calculations.
• Coordinate with drafting, fabrication, vendors, and field teams.
• Support prototype builds, factory acceptance testing, and field deployments.
• Provide technical support for field problems and maintain safety focus.
• Travel 10-15% as needed.
