Job summary

Helmerich and Payne is seeking a Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical Design to lead the development of mechanical systems for FlexRig equipment in Tulsa. You will drive concept through release, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and ensure safety, reliability, and field readiness.

The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering, 7+ years of design experience, proficiency in 3D CAD, and hands-on involvement across fabrication, testing, and deployment, with travel 10–15%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with relevant experience.
• At least 7 years of mechanical design or related engineering experience.
• Ability to lead complex mechanical work from concept to deployment.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and drawing practices; familiarity with FEA.
• Experience with fabrication, welding, and design for manufacture.
• Travel 10-15% as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development for new rig equipment and modifications.
• Translate needs into design requirements and executable plans.
• Develop layouts, weldments, and interfaces with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Perform engineering analysis including load paths, tolerances, and FEA when appropriate.
• Prepare and approve drawings, BOMs, and release documentation.
• Coordinate with fabrication, shops, and vendors to resolve issues.
• Support prototypes, factory acceptance, and field deployments.
