SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a Staff Engineer 4 to lead mechanical design and development for SSRL beamline facilities. The role emphasizes CAD modeling, FEA analysis, tolerance control, and collaboration with scientists to meet stringent vacuum and precision requirements.

You will oversee end-to-end engineering from concept to installation, coordinate with technicians, and mentor a team of engineers to deliver state-of-the-art instrumentation for a world-class user facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in mechanical engineering with hands-on CAD-based design.
• Led full-lifecycle projects from design and fabrication through installation and commissioning.
• Subject matter expert in precision engineering, kinematic principles, mechanical fabrication, and ANSI documentation.
• Combines analytical problem-solving with innovative design conceptualization.
• Proficient in deploying FEA software to solve complex thermal, thermal stress, and structural problems.
• Skilled at conveying technical information to physicists, engineers, and technicians, both verbally and in writing.

Responsabilités

• Lead the design of advanced mechanical systems and experimental facilities for SSRL beamline users.
• Lead component design and development with concept generation, CAD modeling, GD&T, drawings, vendor coordination, and documentation.
• Manage engineering process from conception through construction and field installation; interface with physicists and technicians.
• Act as project manager for complex component or facility construction with teams of engineers and technicians.
• Participate in assembling a world-class group of engineers to support SSRL operations.
