Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory’s Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) Engineering Division seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead the Beam Delivery Systems Engineering Department. The role requires guiding design, operations, and maintenance of X-ray beam paths, mentoring staff, and ensuring rigorous engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and at least eight years of experience with the design and operation of beam delivery systems.
• Experience leading personnel, providing supervision, guidance and training, and participating in hiring activities.
• Proven ability to write performance appraisals and promote engineering rigor while adhering to defined processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership for new initiatives that advance X-ray experimental capabilities through complex instrumentation and opto-mechanical systems.
• Lead integration and testing of systems with staff scientists and fabrication facilities.
• Ensure execution within budget and schedule with quality assurance using standardized processes.
• May serve as Cost Account Manager (CAM) in project roles.
• Promote adherence to Conduct of Engineering and maintain proper documentation.
• Provide department leadership for system development, integration, commissioning, and transfer to operations.
