About the Role

Our client, a dynamic and innovative automotive parts manufacturer, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their esteemed engineering department in Welkom, Free State. This role is central to the design and development of critical automotive components, focusing on performance, durability, and manufacturing feasibility. You will be responsible for taking designs from concept through to production, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal product integration. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex mechanical components and assemblies for automotive applications using advanced CAD software.


• Perform detailed engineering analysis, including stress, fatigue, and thermal analysis, to ensure component integrity and performance.


• Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing.


• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are optimized for production processes (e.g., casting, machining, stamping).


• Work closely with the validation and testing teams to conduct component testing and analyze results.


• Troubleshoot design issues and implement effective solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.


• Contribute to the continuous improvement of design tools, processes, and standards.


• Mentor junior design engineers and share technical knowledge.


• Stay updated on automotive industry trends and emerging technologies.


• Ensure designs meet all relevant automotive standards and customer requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.


• Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong emphasis on automotive component design.


• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
