Job summary

Southland Industries seeks an experienced design engineer to provide conceptual design for HVAC, plumbing and related systems on diverse projects. You will lead design discussions, perform complex calculations, and prepare redline layouts for estimates, while supervising junior engineers through construction.

The candidate should hold a PE license, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, 8+ years of experience, and strong communication skills to interact with clients and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field and PE License preferred.
• 8+ years of experience including lead experience.
• Strong knowledge of fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing and related systems.
• Ability to read complex mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with clients and contractors.
• Strong public speaking and presentation abilities.
• Proficient with CADD and Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

• Provide conceptual design for projects in HVAC, plumbing or other systems.
• Lead project team design meetings as design professional.
• Prepare complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Perform advanced calculations (loads, sizing, friction, hydraulic, etc.).
• Conduct site inspections to verify construction against documents and address design issues.
• Supervise junior engineers in HVAC, fire protection or system design and document production for projects.

Position Summary

Provides conceptual design for specific projects and performs calculations, drawings and specifications relevant to HVAC, plumbing or other systems.

Position Details

• Provides conceptual design for specific projects
• Serves as design professional at project team design meetings
• Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating
• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
• Performs site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolves design issues during construction phase
• Supervises less-experienced engineers in performing HVAC, fire protection or other system design and documents production of small and large projects

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
• PE License required
• 8+ years of experience, including lead experience
• Excellent knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.
• Ability to read complex mechanical and plumbing plans
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate with all levels of employees, clients and general contractors
• Strong public speaking/presentation skills
• Excellent computer skills, including CADD and
• Microsoft Office Products, including as Excel
