Job summary

Southland Industries seeks a senior engineer to lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on design/build and rehabilitation efforts for facilities. You will provide ongoing technical guidance and resolve engineering issues as needed.

The role includes conceptual design, leading project meetings, complex calculations, site inspections, and supervising junior engineers in HVAC, fire protection, and related systems, with strong communication and CAD skills demanded.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License required.
• 8+ years of experience, including lead experience.
• Excellent knowledge of applicable systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
• Ability to read complex mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of staff, clients and general contractors.
• Strong public speaking/presentation skills.
• Excellent computer skills, including CAD and Microsoft Office (Excel).

Position Details

• Provides conceptual design for specific projects
• Serves as design professional at project team design meetings
• Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating
• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
• Performs site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolves design issues during construction phase
• Supervises less-experienced engineers in performing HVAC, fire protection or other system design and documents production of small and large projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
• PE License required
• 8+ years of experience, including lead experience
• Excellent knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.

Pay

Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For Virginia, this ranges from $132,293.00 - $161,692.00 plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
