Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - Machining
Job Description

Our Client is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer - Machining who will design, implement, sustain, and continuously improve manufacturing processes and systems to optimize quality, safety, delivery, and cost. In this role, you collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand and resolve the root causes of production stoppages and constraints, support operational excellence across part fabrication and assembly, and lead high-impact process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to resolve production issues, including quality escalations, machine downtime, and part shortages, while guiding Manufacturing Engineering Technicians who serve as first responders to production support issues.
  • Collect and analyze production data and perform detailed work analysis to establish and update part fabrication and product assembly ERP routes, including setup and run times, operation sequences, and related parameters.
  • Support the accuracy and effectiveness of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for managing manufacturing processes and engineering design changes.
  • Contribute to the development of manufacturing standards and related documentation that ensure consistency, compliance, and clarity in production processes.
  • Create and maintain clear, comprehensive manufacturing work instructions, ensuring appropriate access, review and approval, training, and change management procedures are followed.
  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes, reduce waste, and enhance product quality, using value stream mapping, kaizen events, lean strategies, and Six Sigma statistical methods.
  • Provide written and verbal project updates with appropriate frequency and detail to keep stakeholders informed of progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to understand part, product, and process variability using structured problem-solving techniques and statistical methods, and leverage data analytics to inform decision-making.
  • Work with production leadership to develop, monitor, and improve a balanced scorecard that includes metrics and KPIs for quality, inventory, delivery, and safety.
  • Participate in the evaluation of internal and external quality data to drive product and process improvements, and execute assigned Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) initiatives.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and implement manufacturing processes that meet all applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities, including participation in design reviews, tool and fixture planning, work cell design and validation, and inspection methodology development, while monitoring progress and communicating risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Make timely recommendations to inform capital and expense budgets, providing alternatives with technical and financial justification, and deploy new equipment and related processes with validated safety, training, preventive maintenance, documentation, and process controls.
  • Develop competence across varied manufacturing processes such as machining, assembly, welding, and special processes, and improve machine center part families, programs, tooling, and setup standards.
  • Use CAD/CAM systems to perform design work for tools, fixtures, process area layouts, design reviews, and document creation efficiently and accurately.
  • Support appropriate quality control methods for inspection, testing, and process monitoring to ensure stable and capable manufacturing processes.
Essential Skills
  • Strong manufacturing engineering experience with a deep understanding of machining operations and shop-floor processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of CNC machining, including GD&T, blueprint reading, fixtures, tooling, and machine troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience in process improvement, including cost reduction and optimization of manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot machines and perform effective root cause analysis to resolve production issues.
  • Hands-on experience with statistical process control and data-driven decision-making in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting capital expenditures (capex), including equipment selection, justification, and implementation.
  • Background in new product introduction (NPI) within a manufacturing setting, including support for design reviews and production readiness.
  • Experience executing CAPA activities and managing corrective and preventive actions to improve product and process performance.
  • Practical application of continuous improvement methodologies, including lean and Six Sigma approaches.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time effectively and navigate changes in priorities and assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision and mentorship, taking ownership of projects and deliverables.
  • Capability to develop and communicate clear recommendations with sound technical and financial justification to help educate stakeholders and drive change.
  • Knowledge of corporate quality management systems (QMS) and manufacturing quality and process control methodologies.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, including structured problem-solving techniques and statistical methods.
