Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Allentown, PA, US, 18103

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Summary: Responsible for the specification, design and development of cryogenic liquid & process gas transfer systems. Provide welding, brazing, and fabricating process expertise for continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Reinforce corporate commitment to safety and environmental awareness;
2. Interpret customer requirements into detailed specifications sufficient to develop products including cryogenic liquid transfer systems;
3. Produce detailed design of systems and/or components, including design for manufacturability;
4. Develop analytical models of system design and produce testing protocols sufficient to validate model;
5. Identify problem root causes, develop & implement solutions related to products and processes;
6. Evaluate and recommend components for conformance to design specifications;
7. Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, product and production specifications, product changes, manufacturing capabilities and project status.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

1. 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering
2. At least 5 years relevant experience in the design of piping systems
3. Experience with system designs in compliance with ASMEB31.3 & B31.12
4. Familiarity with process & instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
6. Experience with heat transfer and heat management
7. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
8. Experience with direct customer interface

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

1. 4 years of experience in the design of pressure vessels
2. Thermodynamics and heat transfer
3. Structural design and stress analysis
4. CAD, including SolidWorks
5. Familiarity with ASME, CGA, NFPA, FAR, IMDG, ISO, and PED requirements
6. IP protection and patents
7. FMEA, HAZOP and general risk analysis
