Job description

Talascend is currently seeking aSenior Mechanical Design Engineer for a long-term, remote, contract career opportunity.

Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship.

OVERVIEW:

The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will develop design solutions for reactor structures and components for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. Reporting to the Reactor Enclosure System Manager, the role involves working with a team of engineers and scientists to advance next-generation nuclear reactor design.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design reactor structures and components from requirements through final design.
Coordinate inputs and requirements from engineering and project teams to develop design solutions.
Perform scoping analysis and calculations for design options.
Interface with the team’s engineering analysis activities.
Present equipment and component design results for design reviews.
Assess the technical merit of solutions provided by team members and lead design reviews.
Provide direction and mentoring to junior engineers and subcontractors.
Support continuous learning and the application of nuclear industry best practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of eight years of equipment/component design experience (an M.S. degree counts as two years of experience).
Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III.
Proficiency in writing design specifications.
Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
Familiarity with finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and commercial mechanical stress analysis tools, especially ANSYS.
Strong writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently on complex problems and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Familiarity with CAD, with a preference for SolidWorks.
Demonstrates a high degree of trust and integrity, open communication, respect, and a commitment to teamwork.
