Job summary

Roush is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Michigan to join our Advanced Engineering team. You will translate customer needs into design requirements, develop mechanical systems from concept to prototype, and lead CAD resources for 3D models and 2D prints while guiding a team to meet project milestones.

Ideal candidates bring 4+ years in automotive/aerospace, strong powertrain knowledge (ICE/EV), and hands-on troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in automotive, aerospace, or related industry experience
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, specifically modern powertrain operation (ICE and EV)
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving; able to provide solutions to complex problems
  • Experienced with DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, DFM, and FEA
  • Ability to work on multiple programs simultaneously
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Team-oriented

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve mechanical systems from concept to prototype level

Roush has an immediate need within our Advanced Engineering department for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a broad role that requires working on a variety of engineering programs. The role works on projects for large and small customers to meet the customers' timelines. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer works in a team environment to understand each customer’s unique needs and mentors and oversees team member’s technical deliverables to ensure Roush and customer standards are met.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:
  • Translate customer needs to design requirements and to feasible design concepts and apply relevant engineering analysis to design components and subsystems
  • Design and evolve mechanical systems from concept to prototype level
  • Manage CAD resources to develop 3D models and 2D prints
  • Conduct hardware development tasks including testing
  • Utilize Computer Aided Engineering resources to validate designs analytically
  • Document & report status internally and externally to customers
  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and technical support to team members
  • Work hands-on in a mechanical environment
To be considered as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 4years of experience in automotive, aerospace, or related industry experience
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, specifically modern powertrain operation (both ICE and EV systems), and a strong interest in all things mechanical
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to provide solutions to complex problems outside your comfort zone in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Experienced and skilled in the development, use and maintenance of DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), DVP&Rs (Design Verification Plan & Reports/Failure Mode), DFM (Design for Manufacturing), and FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
  • Ability to work on multiple programs at once
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical data to various audiences
  • Able to perform effectively in a team environment
A successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer may also have:
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Simulation experience (FEA, physics-based modeling or similar)
  • Hands-on ICE, hybrid and/or electric vehicle development experience
