Job summary

Lumentum Operations LLC in San Jose, CA, seeks a Staff Mechanical Component Engineer to own the selection, qualification, lifecycle management, and reliability oversight of mechanical components for optical and electronic products.

You will partner with Mechanical Design, R&D, Supplier Quality, Procurement, and Manufacturing to meet design, performance, cost, and long-term availability goals, while leading engineering changes and supplier communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• 5+ years in mechanical component engineering or related field.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical components, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, material standards, and inspection reports.

Responsibilities

• Own component engineering activities from requirements to qualification and lifecycle management.
• Define and review component specifications, CTQs, tolerances, and acceptance criteria.
• Lead technical qualification of new and alternate mechanical components.
• Collaborate with R&D and Supplier Quality to drive manufacturability and design-for-assembly.
• Assess component performance, materials, manufacturing processes, tolerance stack-ups, and reliability risks.
• Evaluate PCNs, EOLs, and engineering changes for product impact.
• Lead technical problem-solving and failure analysis for component-related issues.
