Job summary

Detroit Salt Company seeks an experienced heavy equipment diesel mechanic to support our mining operations. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain power equipment such as cranes, wheel loaders, haul trucks, conveyors, and pumps.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Diesel engine mechanic certification or equivalent proficiency requested.
• 5+ years experience in industrial shop or mining environment required.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment including cranes, wheel loaders, haul trucks, conveyors, bulldozers, pumps and pneumatic tools.
• Operate and inspect machines to diagnose defects and perform repairs.
• Weld broken parts and structural members.
• Check and fill fluid levels and perform routine preventative maintenance.
• Inspect and maintain a clean, safe work area and complete shift paperwork.
• Cross-train and multi-task across varied skill sets and functions.
• Communicate safety concerns to supervisor and management as needed.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems; use technical drawings and testing equipment.
• Obtain replacement parts and direct workers in cleaning and assembly tasks.

Education
