Job summary

Detroit Salt Company is seeking a skilled diesel mechanic to join our on-site maintenance team in Detroit. You will diagnose, repair, and rebuild power equipment used in mining operations, including cranes, loaders, conveyors, and bulldozers.

Strong knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems is essential. Candidate must have 5+ years in an industrial shop or mining setting and a valid diesel engine mechanic certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; accredited diesel mechanic certification a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in an industrial shop or mining environment.
• 1-year CAT SIS Program preferred experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild and maintain power equipment (cranes, loaders, conveyors, bulldozers, pumps).
• Operate and inspect machines to diagnose defects, dismantle/reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
• Weld broken parts and structural members.
• Perform routine maintenance and check fluid levels, lubrication, and housekeeping for a safe work area.
• Complete paperwork and log shifts; communicate safety issues to supervision.
