Job summary

Redford Township seeks a full-time Chief Mechanic (Mechanic V) in the Central Maintenance Department. The role performs a variety of maintenance and repair services on motorized vehicles and other equipment, testing during and after repairs, and supporting township services.

Requires a high school diploma/GED, five years' mechanic experience, Michigan mechanic certifications and MI CDL with air brake endorsement; Master certifications may substitute.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum five years' mechanic experience on motorized vehicles.
• Michigan mechanic certification in engine repair, brakes, and another area required.
• Valid MI CDL with ≤5 points and air brake endorsement.
• Master Technician status may substitute for state certification.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate staff in the department.
• Schedule and perform preventative maintenance.
• Identify tools, equipment and parts needed for repairs.
• Maintain records of repairs.
• Respond to emergencies/breakdowns.
• Operate and test vehicles/equipment during/after repairs.
• Provide input on inventory and tool needs.
