Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking a Mechanic III to perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and complex repairs on City vehicles and equipment. This role may serve as supervisor or trainer to junior mechanics and involves maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Incentives include certification pay and shift incentives, with opportunities to work across multiple sites and shifts. Candidates should have automotive/diesel experience and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; ASE/EVT preferred.
• Four-year automotive/heavy equipment maintenance experience or 2-year plus associate degree.
• Valid Texas CDL/Class A or B within 6 months is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose complex issues and execute repairs; conduct system tests.
• Repair and rebuild vehicle components; ensure safety and quality.
• Serve as shop supervisor or trainer to lower-level mechanics.
• Order parts and update work orders; maintain a clean, safe workspace.
