Job summary

The State of Delaware's Maintenance & Operations division seeks a Master Mechanic to perform expert-level mechanical and reclamation work across light, heavy, watercraft, and all-terrain equipment. You will diagnose, repair, rebuild, modify and install major systems and mentor junior mechanics, contributing to annual equipment budgeting.

Ideal candidates have multi‑engine diagnostics, welding, machining expertise and a valid driver’s license; CDL may be required.

Qualifications

  • Three years' experience diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding and calibrating light and heavy-duty engines and related equipment.
  • Three years' experience in gas and electric welding.
  • Three years' experience in machining or milling parts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Knowledge of staff supervision gained through coursework or leadership experience; or supervising a team.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance: lubricating, cleaning, servicing, inspecting and testing equipment.
  • Uses diagnostic equipment to evaluate, troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Repairs or replaces parts and assemblies with power and hand tools.
  • Interprets schematics/blueprints for inspections, wiring and maintenance.
  • Operates systems to research parts, prepare records and analyze malfunctions.
  • Fabricates parts and performs gas/electric welding; conducts body repairs.
  • Responds to road service requests and assists tow/trucks.
  • conducts road tests to verify issues and post-maintenance status.
  • Cleans/tools and shop facilities; adheres to safety and EPA rules.
