Job summary

Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) is seeking a Senior Mechanic to lead the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems, including lift and pump stations. Incumbents perform the most difficult, complex, and/or sensitive assignments and apply advanced techniques for condition monitoring and troubleshooting.

The role involves planning, scheduling, and may include training and development of training materials, with opportunities for research and corrective action

Qualifications

• CWEA Mechanical Technologist Grade 2 certificate (or higher).
• One year of full-time paid experience as SacSewer Mechanic III.
• Five years of full-time paid experience in maintenance, construction and repair of mechanical and electrical components of equipment in wastewater treatment plants, potable water systems, lift stations, storm drain pumping stations, or other mechanical facilities with similar systems and equipment.
• Sixty (60) semester units with thirty (30) in mathematics, science, and/or engineering, plus three years of related experience.
• Note: Substitution options include completion of a two-year mechanical-electrical technology program or two years of a stationary engineer apprenticeship program.

The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) Senior Mechanic is the lead and/or advanced journey level class in the Mechanic series. Incumbents in this class are responsible for performing the most difficult, complex, and/or sensitive assignments related to the operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems including operation of lift and pump stations. Incumbents may also perform highly complex or specialized functions and analytical work such as planning, scheduling, training, and development of training materials. Incumbents also apply advanced/specialized maintenance techniques for condition monitoring and assessment troubleshooting, research, and development of corrective actions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Either: 1. Possession of a valid California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade 2 certificate, or higher.

AND

One year of full-time paid experience employed by the district in the class of SacSewer Mechanic III.

Or: Five years of full-time paid experience in the maintenance, construction, and repair of mechanical and electrical components of equipment in wastewater treatment plants, potable water systems, lift stations, storm drain pumping stations, or other mechanical facilities with similar systems and equipment.

Or: 2. Completion of sixty (60) semester (90 quarter) units from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units in mathematics, science, and/or engineering.

AND

Three years of full-time paid experience in the maintenance, construction, and repair of mechanical and electrical components of equipment in wastewater treatment plants, potable water systems, lift stations, storm drain pumping stations, or other mechanical facilities with similar systems and equipment.

Note: Completion of a two-year mechanical-electrical technology program or two years of a stationary engineer apprenticeship program may be substituted for two years of the required experience in pattern #2 above.
