Job summary

MPI is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer for a leading client manufacturing high-performance permanent magnet materials. You will develop and optimize processes, lead pilot projects, and collaborate across Quality, Operations, and R&D to deliver advanced materials solutions.

The role emphasizes Lean/Six Sigma, data-driven decisions, and cross-functional teamwork in a highly technical production environment. Strong communication with customers is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in materials, manufacturing, or process engineering.
  • Strong expertise in materials science, testing, and failure analysis.
  • Experience with process development and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience analyzing data using statistical methods.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, quality, operations, and manufacturing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for permanent magnet production.
  • Lead development of new magnetic material grades and improve material performance.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Operations to maintain work instructions, pFMEAs, BOMs, and documentation.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing technologies and equipment.
  • Support equipment qualification, installation, validation, and startup activities.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, throughput, and cost.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for process issues.
  • Perform material characterization, testing, and failure analysis activities.
  • Lead pilot projects related to new materials, processes, and technologies.
  • Provide technical support for production operations (melt, milling, powder processing, pressing, sintering).
  • Analyze manufacturing and testing data to improve process performance and product quality.
  • Interface with customers to provide technical recommendations and manufacturing guidance.
  • Support business development and knowledge-sharing through technical expertise.

This position is responsible for developing new magnetic material grades, improving manufacturing processes, and supporting production through advanced materials engineering expertise. The successful candidate will lead technical projects focused on process optimization, material characterization, equipment implementation, and continuous improvement while collaborating closely with Operations, Quality, R&D, and customers.

Description

Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in materials engineering, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering.
  • Strong expertise in materials science, material testing, and failure analysis.
  • Experience with process development, manufacturing optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience analyzing materials and process data using statistical and engineering methods.
  • Strong project management, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, quality, operations, and manufacturing teams.
  • Experience in powder metallurgy, advanced materials processing, or highly engineered manufacturing environments preferred.
