Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Materials & Processes Engineer to support composites, prepregs, adhesives, and other organic materials used in nacelle applications. You will create and maintain material specifications, provide technical support to design teams, and resolve complex questions from Operations and suppliers.

Travel up to 20%. You will lead small technical teams, mentor engineers, and contribute to supplier qualifications and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Experience with composites, prepregs, structural adhesives, and aerospace organic/metallic materials.
  • Experience with technical writing (specifications, test plans, and reports).
  • Experience with MS Word and Excel.

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Materials & Processes Engineer who will provide support in composites, structural adhesives, and other organic materials used in nacelle applications. In this role, you will create and maintain materials and process specifications, deliver timely technical support to program design teams, and resolve complex questions from Operations and suppliers. You will also support the engineering materials catalog, lead special process supplier qualifications, and contribute to cross-functional problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.


What You Will Do


  • Develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems requiring creativity, sound judgment, and alignment with program objectives.

  • Create, maintain, and approve materials and process specifications for composites, prepregs, and structural adhesives.

  • Lead special-process supplier qualifications and audits.

  • Conduct root cause investigations and develop corrective/preventive actions for process failures or quality issues.

  • Serve as a technical contact for external customers and suppliers; deliver technical presentations.

  • Develop qualifications, certification, and acceptance material property values.

  • Lead small technical teams and mentor early-career engineers.

  • Drive CORE MFA, and SPQDC initiatives.

  • Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.


Qualifications You Must Have


  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.

  • Experience with composites, prepregs, structural adhesives, and aerospace organic/metallic materials.

  • Experience with technical writing (specifications, test plans, and reports).

  • Experience with MS Word and Excel.


Qualifications We Prefer


  • Aerospace manufacturing experience (nacelle products preferred).

  • Experience with SAP and Teamcenter.

  • Continuous improvement background (CORE, Lean, Six Sigma).

  • Effective communication of complex technical concepts to internal and external customers.

This role is a U.S.-based role.


The salary range for this role is 95,500 USD - 181,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
